When Business Intelligence joins the World Cup: our internal predictions followed in near real-time

How Aliksan Turcan (Head of Innovation & IT), Fabio Spano (Deputy Director of Audit), Cédric Dobel (Deputy Director of Accounting) and Mateo Srdarovic (Digital Transformation Consultant) transformed a colleague prediction game into a full-scale demonstration of Berney Insights.

The World Cup is that time when even the most serious among us discover their inner footballer. At Berney Associés, we were no exception: an internal prediction game was launched, bringing with it its fair share of lively debates during coffee breaks.

But rather than follow all this in a shared Excel spreadsheet, with the manual updates and consolidations that implies, our colleagues built an interactive, online dashboard with near real-time results. An initiative born in the free time of a few enthusiasts, simply for the pleasure of combining football and data.

A living ranking, not a fixed file

In concrete terms, each employee entered their predictions before the start of the competition. From there, our dashboard, designed with Power BI and using the same approach as Berney Insights, takes over:

• An updated general ranking that evolves with match results. Everyone can see their position, their points total and the gap to the top of the table.
• Point curves for comparison: everyone can track the evolution of their score against another participant and see precisely when one has overtaken the other.
• A complete view of the competition: team performance, matches played, upcoming matches, all useful information for following the competition and predictions are visible directly on the dashboard.
• Multi-device access: the rankings can be viewed just as easily from your office computer as from your phone, during or after matches.

Result No one asks «who's in the lead?» anymore. Everyone knows. And everyone's talking about it.
